Today marks 20 years since we lost my father, Seamie.
It is hard to believe that two decades have passed, but not a day goes by that he isn’t remembered and his presence is still felt every day in Autobits Motorstore.
Seamie founded Autobits in 1980, with a simple belief: look after people, work hard, and always have time for a bit of craic. He built more than a successful business; he built it on friendships that have lasted a lifetime.
To many, Seamie was the man behind the counter who always had the right part. But those who knew him knew there was so much more to him than that.
He was a devoted family man, passionate about cars, loved travelling, and never missed the chance to follow the football.
More than anything, he loved people. He was always up for the craic, enjoyed a good chat, and took a genuine interest in everyone who walked through the door.
Many of you will remember that calling into Autobits wasn’t just about picking up a part. More often than not, you would leave with the latest football results, a few local stories, plenty of laughs, and maybe even staying longer than you had planned.
Seamie had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, and people would often call in as much to see him as they would be to buy anything.
He was a true community man who believed in treating everyone with kindness, respect, and honesty. Those values became the foundation of Autobits and continue to guide us every day.
As his son, it is both a privilege and an honour to continue the business he started over 45 years ago. Every time I open the doors, I am reminded of the standards he set, the friendships he built, and the legacy he left behind.
I only hope to do him proud.
On his 20th anniversary, we remember not only the founder of Autobits, but a much-loved husband, devoted family man, loyal friend, and someone who left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Thank you to everyone who supported our family and Autobits over the years. It means so much when people still come into the shop and share their stories. Those memories keep him very much alive in our hearts.
Forever remembered. Forever missed.
